In composing Desert Sprint, I was inspired by Ensemble Rosario’s unique inclusion of the guitar. In envisioning a speedy jaunt across the desert, I drew on music of various styles that represent nostalgia for both the desert of my childhood (The Great Salt Lake Desert) and the deserts of my imagination, both from literature and from my imaginings of parts of the world I hope to one day see.
